Monument Hybrid

Monument Hybrid
Seed #373
This Chinese cabbage hybrid produces bright dark green, upright heads that look statuesque in the garden. A Michihli type of Chinese cabbage, Monument cabbages are cylindrical in shape, with crisp, textured outer leaves surrounding a sweet, tender, white core. Popular for its excellent flavor, disease tolerance and high quality, this semi-heading variety produces a bumper crop with cabbages as heavy as 4 pounds each. Harvest in the cool fall and early winter months. Monument is approximately 10 days later maturing than Green Rocket variety. Perfect for pickling, this variety is also excellent in stir-fries and soups.

Cultivation: Chinese cabbage prefers cool temperatures for its main growing season. Prepare fertile, well-drained soil. Sow seeds in mid to late summer in a sunny location. Keep soil moist. Fertilize as needed. Exposure to frost or prolonged temperatures below 50°F may result in bolting.
Note: Chinese Cabbage requires vernalization. Bud differentiation and bolting results from low temperatures of 41°F for a week or 50°F for two weeks. For spring harvest, transplant seedlings with 5-7 true leaves raised at 73-75°F during the day and over 53°F at night. Providing plants with adequate water and fertilizer after transplanting will promote faster growth.
