This highly pungent perennial herb is grown primarily for its tiny spicy seedlings, but the plant can be used at any stage of growth. Water Pepper grows wild in Europe but is rarely used as a cultivated spice outside of Japan, where the fresh leaves are used primarily for seasoning.
