Umaina is a tender Japanese Chard. The leaves are deep green slightly waved and smooth. The mid-rib is pale green with short stalks. This variety is can withstand warm and cold temperatures and slow bolting. It is prepared like pak choi and very similar to spinach. Sow seeds from mid-spring to early fall. Prepare rows 18”-24” apart in fertile, well-drained soil. Plant each seed ½” deep and 2”-4” apart. Thin the seedlings 4”-6” apart. Keep soil moist. Fertilize lightly.
